Language Sciences Undergraduate Research Conference (LSURC)
LSURC is open to everyone and creates an opportunity for students to explore, through the work of their peers, language and communication research with an interdisciplinary perspective. Stay tuned for the Call for Papers later this year. Learn more on our website or Facebook, and make sure to come check out next year's conference!
Speech and Linguistics Student Association (SALSA)
SALSA represents students from many interdisciplinary fields including Linguistics, Speech Science, and First Nations & Endangered Languages. We host two types of events: social events (like IP’Eh Trivia Night and the end-of-year gala), as well as academic/career-building events (like peer tutoring, Beyond the B.A., and How to Apply to Grad School workshops). Membership is $5 for the academic year. Learn more about SALSA by checking out our Facebook, Instagram, or website. If you have any questions, you can message or email us at ubc.salsa@gmail.com.

Learn about the central role of language in our lives with the Living Language course
This interdisciplinary course teaches students about the importance and influence of language, including the role that language plays in your particular field of study, and how to apply knowledge about language in the workforce. Through the course, students will lead their own exploration of language as it applies to all domains of human life, and will engage in group discussion with peers from many different disciplines, learning to communicate and translate across traditional academic boundaries.
Featuring guest lecturers, including President Santa Ono and speech-language pathologist Riley Rosebush in 2019, the course will be taught by Dr. Elise Stickles (English) and Dr. Darko Odic (Psychology) in 2020W. Click here to find out more information and email living.language@ubc.ca with any queries.
